Be 18 years old or older.
Be a citizen of the United States or lawfully admitted for permanent residency in the United States.
Be a resident of Nevada or a non-resident of a bordering state who is employed or maintains a business in Nevada.
Not have been convicted of a felony, and who does not possess his/her civil rights.
Never had a notary commission revoked in another state.

Notary Bond
Required. A bond in the amount of $10,000 is required for new, renewing, and electronic notaries.
Errors & Omissions Insurance
Optional. Nevada Notary "Discount" Association Co. strongly recommends that Nevada notaries insure themselves against claims of negligence.
Notary Stamp/Notary Seal
Required. A rubber inked stamp.
Record Journal
Required. Nevada notaries public must record every notarial act in a notary journal. The notary journal must be a bound volume with preprinted page numbers. A notary public is mandated by state law to keep his or her notary journal for seven years after the date on which the notary public ceases to be a notary public.
State Filing Fee
A filing fee of $35 is required for new and renewal notary applications. A $50 filing fee is required for electronic notaries.
Education/Testing
Required. All new applicants are required to complete a 3-hour notary course and pass a mandatory notary exam approved by the Secretary of State. A notary public renewing his or her notary commission must retake the notary course.

Non-Residents
Permitted. A non-resident working in Nevada and living in a bordering state (Utah, California, Oregon, Idaho, or Arizona) may apply for a one-year term. Non-resident applicants must complete and submit the “Non-resident Notary Public Affidavit” with their initial application. The employer must complete the “Affidavit of Applicant’s Employer.” In addition, the non-resident applicant must provide a copy of the Nevada State Business license from the company in which he or she is employed.
Certificate of Appointment Renewal
A notary public may apply before the expiration of his or her appointment by completing a renewal notary application form. A notary public renewing his or her notary commission must complete a 3-hour notary course.

We will process your new or renewal notary bond package order and directly mail you the following:
  • Notary bond.
  • Notary errors & omissions insurance policy.
  • Official seal stamp (if ordered) will be processed once we receive a copy of the certificate of appointment from you (see step 7).
You must file your notary bond and take the oath of office with the County Clerk's office in the county in which you reside.

When you receive your notary bond from us by mail you will need to take the notary bond to the County Clerk's office in the county in which you reside, or the county in which you are employed if an out of state applicant. The clerk will administer the oath of office, file your notary bond, and provide you with a "filing notice".

There is a fee for the filing of the bond and this fee varies between counties. Please be sure and call your County Clerk's office ahead of time to determine what the fee will be. The below link will provide a list of County Clerk's nearest you:

You must only mail all required documents and application fee to the Nevada Secretary of State's office. Once you receive your certificate of appointment proceed to the next step.
  • Original signed and completed notary public application.
  • The filing notice you received from the County Clerk's office. (The filing notice must be attached to your original notary public application.)
  • Training class certificate of completion. (The certificate of completion must be attached to your original notary public application.)
  • $35.00 non-refundable application fee may be paid via check or money order (make payable to the Nevada Secretary of State), or via credit card. If paying by credit card, complete the credit card checklist and submit with your application. The credit card checklist may be found by clicking here.

Important: Once received the processing time of the Nevada Secretary of State's Office is 6 to 9 business days is the all of the required information is complete and correct. Once you are approved the Nevada Secretary of State will issue you a certificate of appointment that will be sent to you via mail. 

Send us a copy of your certificate of appointment so we can order your official stamp seal. Please do not delay!

Once you have received your certificate of appointment from the Nevada Secretary of State's office you will need to fax, email or mail us a copy of that certificate of appointment so that we can order your official stamp seal. Please allow ample time to receive your new official stamp seal due to the fact that it must be personalized and manufactured.
